Confidentiality
I am bound by the law and by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists code of ethics to keep all information that you communicate and share confidential. I take this responsibility very seriously.
As with many laws there are a few exceptions. I am mandated by the law to break confidentiality if a client shares they are going to harm themselves or someone else. I will then take necessary action to guarantee safety. Further, if a client reports child or elder abuse, I am required to make a report to the appropriate agency.
